Sierra Leone
From the web
In his article “Child Soldiers”, Mike Wessells states, “Child soldiering violates the fundamental rights of children, exploits youth for political purposes, subjects them to slaughter and the ravages of war, and immerses them in a system that sanctions killing.”
Nirit Ben-Ari and Ernest Harsch, in there report “Sierra Leone Truth Commission condemns abuse” give an example of how the rebels treated the people “After misusing me to their satisfaction, the rebels left me alone in a very hopeless condition.
Jeremy Vine’s article “A Cruel War” gives a good example of how the rebels are careless and heartless "When the rebels reached the city, in a matter of days they are said to have amputated the limbs of around 1,500 people".
From the book
The imagery that Ishmael Beah uses in his description of the rebels can put the reader in front of the death: “Like lightning, I saw the spark of fire that came from the muzzle.” Beah shows the reader how there were many rebels and that they were fast at their work: “We saw an old man sitting in a chair as if asleep”.
“We started to crawl across the clearing,” Beah shows the intensity of the situation that many people were in.

Born in the USA
“Born in the USA” sounds glorious. However Springsteen’s interpretation is that it is not all it is cracked up to be. The line in the song that shows this is “Went down to see my V.A man. He said son, don’t you understand”. That shows that even after serving his country there are no jobs any where for any one. Then the line “Born in the USA” is said after that but in sarcasms saying that it is not so great. Then during the war there was a draft. Tough he was not drafted he had to serve "So they put a rifle in my hand Either that or go to jail.

Irony
Irony
Isn’t it ironic-
1 When a bee is allergic to a flower.
2 When a mouse chases a cat.
3 For a nun to go clothing shopping.
4 To see a person walking a cat.
5 When a computer nerd does not own a computer.
6 For the electric company to have a power outage.
7 That a fish can’t swim.
8 That a bird with wings can’t fly.
9 To here a bird hum.
10 That a duck is scared of the water.
11 For a doctor not to be ok with blood.
12 For a vegetarian to not like salads.

McCarthy
All authors display there own kind of diction. In the excerpt form McCarthy’s Child of God, the author creates diction which is both clever and unique. The author shows how some of the characters are clever, “Reached and grabbed the riffle out of the old boy’s hand fore he could shoot and the old pigeon just went blam anyways’’. Another showing that the people of the book are unique is when McCarthy describes the fair when the people fight the ape: “They’d give ye $50”.

Sue Monkk Kidd
The Secret Life of Bees
Sue Monk Kidd’s novel concerns a young girl searching for stability in a complex environment. At the beginning of the novel Kidd uses imagery to better the reader’s visualization of the story and the characters in it. One example of the authors imagery to help you see the characters is“’Bees swarm before death’ said Rosaleen.” This gives you a little incite too what kind of person Rosaleen is. Kidd also uses her words too show you how relationships are between people. For example: “’My daddy—who I called T. Ray’ said the daughter.” This shows that the father daughter relationship may not be so strong. The detail that the narrator uses shows that even the smallest thing, like the bees, is a big part of the story,”‘ Flew in circles around the room, making that propeller sound, a high-pitched zzzzzzzz that hummed along my skin’ said Lily the daughter.” This shows that the bees mean something to Lily.
